Launch of our Online Programming

Dear DSBN Virtual Elementary School Parents, Guardians and Students:

We are very excited about the launch of our online programming and looking forward to a great year of learning together!

This week, to ensure we have ample time to provide appropriate technology and internet access to all our families, we are going to begin with a staggered start similar to in-person learners who started school this week.

Here’s what to expect:

Today, you would have found work posted on our website under the Assignments tab for your child(ren) so they can engage in learning right away.

We have two days set aside for a teacher from our DSBN Virtual School to contact you to welcome you, answer your questions, and ensure you are set up with technology and appropriate internet to be successful. If you didn’t get a call today, you will hear from your child’s teacher tomorrow.

Our staggered start begins on Wednesday, with our Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2 and 3 learners. Even if you didn’t receive a call from your child’s teacher today, you and your Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2 or 3 child are invited to join their teacher in the first online learning session tomorrow morning at 8:30 am.

Your child’s teacher will send you an email with a link to a platform called, “Microsoft Teams”. At 8:30 am tomorrow morning, simply click on the link that says, “Join Microsoft Teams Meeting”. Don’t worry if you don’t have a computer – this will work on a phone as well.

For students in grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 students work will be posted on our website.

On Thursday, our grade 4, 5 and 6 will begin. Work for our grade 7 and 8 students will be posted here on the website. And finally, on Friday our Grade 7 & 8 students will be able to log on and meet with their class and teacher.

We know you are excited to get started; however, while you are waiting for your child’s classes to begin, we ask that you do not try to log into D2L. Your child’s teacher will contact you when their class content has been uploaded.

We’ve heard from some parents that they don’t have usernames and passwords for their child yet. Come back here the morning of Sept 9, and we will have information posted for you on how to access this.

We know this plan is slightly different than what we originally communicated; however, we believe that just like our in-person programs, ensuring we are all fully ready to welcome learners is important.

We’re confident it will be worth the wait!
